Servo press

Servo press

Servo press is a type of automatic press designed and manufactured by CNCVina. Servo presses are used in the automobile, motorbike, and electronic assembly industries, providing high productivity and accuracy and stable operation. Pressing functions can be changed for each product thanks to flexible and quick Jig changes and control programs.

Today, customer requirements for automatic machinery designs are even more stringent. In addition to increased productivity and greater flexibility, a reduction in investment costs must also be achieved at the same time. Particularly with presses, which use regular engines and hydraulic mechanical systems, maintenance and changing parameters will be more difficult. By relying on servo motors the press can be controlled in place of conventional pressing processes and can benefit from increased productivity and product quality with great flexibility.

Product description

A servo press machine is a modern automated pressing solution widely used in various industrial manufacturing and assembly applications. By utilizing a servo motor and a precision control system, the machine can flexibly adjust the pressing force, speed, and position according to specific processing requirements. Compared with conventional press machines, servo press machines provide better control over the pressing process, particularly for applications requiring high precision and consistent performance. The machine also features a compact design, quiet operation, and optimized energy consumption during production. Thanks to its flexible programmability, pressing parameters can be configured to suit different products and individual processing stages. This makes the servo press machine an ideal solution for businesses seeking to improve production automation and increase manufacturing efficiency. In the following article, let's explore the technical specifications, operating principle, operation procedures, and key advantages of the servo press machine with CNC VINA.

Operating principle of the servo press machine

Unlike conventional mechanical presses, which use a flywheel and clutch to transmit energy to the ram, a servo press machine uses a servo motor to directly control the movement of the pressing mechanism. With precise control of speed, position, and torque, the machine can generate the required pressing force even when operating at low speeds.

During operation, the ram speed and stroke can be flexibly adjusted according to each stage of the pressing process. This enables better control of the pressing force while improving the accuracy and consistency of the finished products.

Thanks to its flexible programmability, the servo press machine can be designed and adjusted to meet a wide range of processing requirements. It helps overcome some of the limitations of conventional mechanical presses and is well suited for modern, highly automated production lines.

Servo press machine operation, safety precautions and troubleshooting

To ensure that the servo press machine operates stably, accurately, and safely, operators must follow the proper procedures for machine startup, setup, and operation. In addition, understanding safety precautions and how to handle common errors can help minimize problems, protect the equipment, and ensure efficient production.

Servo press machine operation procedure and guidelines

Before operating the servo press machine, the operator must inspect the overall condition of the machine and ensure that the working area is free of obstacles. Connect the machine to the power supply according to the specified technical requirements and ensure that the machine is properly grounded for safety. Then, turn on the main circuit breaker and check the machine's electrical circuit protection devices, if equipped.

Once the machine is powered on, the Power indicator light will illuminate to indicate that the system is receiving power. Next, press the Ready button to put the machine into the ready-to-operate state and check the Ready indicator light. Press Reset/Return to clear any remaining alarms or errors and return the machine mechanisms to their initial HOME position. The pressing cycle should only be started when the machine is in the correct HOME position and all required safety conditions have been met.

The servo press machine can be operated in two main modes: Manual and Auto. In Manual mode, the operator turns the mode selection switch to the manual control position, selects the mechanism to be operated, and uses the Forward/Back buttons to control its movement. This mode is typically used for machine inspection, position adjustment, jig checking, or operations that require direct intervention by the operator.

In Auto mode, first check the machine's readiness conditions, such as the status of the safety door, clamping mechanism, HOME position, and other relevant safety signals. Then, switch the machine to Auto mode, select the correct product model to be processed, and press the Start buttons simultaneously to begin the automatic cycle. During operation, the operator should monitor the machine's operating status and any warning signals displayed on the signal tower or control screen.

When changing the product model, the automatic cycle must be stopped and the machine switched to Manual mode before proceeding. Replace the jig body with the appropriate jig for the new model, then check and readjust the pressing positions, clamping positions, and related mechanisms. After completing the jig change, run the machine in Manual mode to check all movements and confirm that the main operating positions are correct. The machine should only be switched to Auto mode after all inspection and adjustment procedures have been completed.

Notes when operating and common errors

Note: While running automatically, if the machine cover is opened, the machine will automatically stop immediately. When closing the door, the operating mode must be switched to manual mode. Press the 'Reset/Return button to reset all system errors and return the device to HOME state. Then the machine will operate normally.

When the machine is running, if you press the EMG button, the machine will stop immediately at the pressed position. To operate the machine again:

  • Release the EMG button
  • Switch operating mode to manual mode
  • Press the 'Ready' button and the ready indicator lights up
  • Press the 'Reset/Return button to reset all system errors and return the device to HOME state
  • The machine operates normally.

Common errors.

While running, the machine stops, the red tower light flashes, and the horn sounds. The operator proceeds:

  • Check the door, check the clamp cylinder to see if there is any jam but the clamp cannot be opened or it has been opened but the LS cylinder does not turn.
  • Adjust again: switch to MANUAL mode, press the 'RESET' button to clear the error
  • Press the 'RETURN' button to return the device to the original
  • Switch to AUTO mode and run again.

Advantages of servo presses designed and manufactured by CNC VINA

The use of a servo motor and automatic control system enables the servo press machine to achieve a higher level of automation, reduce dependence on manual labor, and provide more precise control over the pressing process. In addition, the machine offers several outstanding advantages:

  • Compact design: The machine features a compact structure, helping save installation space and making it suitable for factories that require optimized production floor space.

  • Energy-efficient and environmentally friendly: The servo press machine uses energy more efficiently and produces low noise during operation. In some applications, energy consumption can be reduced by approximately 20–30% compared with hydraulic presses, depending on the machine design and operating conditions.

  • Higher productivity: Pressing speed, position, load, and pressing time can be precisely controlled, helping optimize the operating cycle, shorten production time, and improve productivity.

  • High precision: The machine can achieve positioning accuracy of approximately 0.01 mm (0.0004 inch), making it well suited for high-precision pressing and assembly processes.

  • Easy setup and operation: The intuitive control system allows pressing parameters to be configured according to product requirements, making machine setup and operation faster, more convenient, and safer.

The servo press machine is an ideal solution for pressing and assembly processes that require high precision, stability, and a high level of automation. Its ability to adjust pressing force, speed, position, and stroke allows the machine to flexibly meet a wide range of production requirements. In addition, its compact design, low operating noise, and efficient energy consumption are other notable advantages of this type of machine. The machine is relatively easy to operate and set up, while its safety mechanisms help improve operational safety. Depending on the product, required pressing force, and production process, the machine can be custom-designed and integrated to meet the specific requirements of each business. CNC VINA, with extensive experience in designing and manufacturing automation equipment, can provide consultation on suitable servo press solutions for specific applications.
