ED dip painting line is an integrated system comprising multiple processes and equipment for surface treatment, coating, drying, and finishing products in automotive, motorcycle, electric vehicle, and supporting-industry manufacturing plants. As Vietnam’s automotive, motorcycle, and supporting industries continue to develop, investment in paint shop lines with appropriate capacity and levels of integration has become increasingly important. The emergence and expansion of manufacturers such as VinFast, Mazda Truong Hai, and Hyundai Thanh Cong have also contributed to increasing demand for domestic capabilities in the design, fabrication, and implementation of industrial production systems.
Through its involvement in industrial automation and equipment manufacturing, CNC-VINA has progressively developed its capabilities in implementing paint shop lines for automobiles, motorcycles, and electric vehicles, ranging from individual equipment packages to highly integrated systems. CNC-VINA’s projects have included PT/ED systems, dipping tanks, conveyors, paint booths, ovens, AHU systems, DI water systems, boilers, and other supporting systems, designed and implemented according to the production requirements and actual plant layout of each facility.
Depending on the product type, production volume, and coating quality requirements, a paint shop line may include pretreatment (PT), electrocoating (ED), primer coating, color coating, top coat, paint booths, ovens, conveyors, air supply and treatment systems, as well as various auxiliary systems. For new projects, the line should be designed as an integrated system, covering plant layout planning, process selection, capacity calculation, equipment design, and supporting utilities. For existing plants, the paint shop line can be modified, expanded, or upgraded on a system-by-system basis to accommodate increased production capacity or new process requirements. With capabilities in design, fabrication, and on-site installation, CNC-VINA provides paint shop line solutions tailored to the scope and requirements of each project, from overall engineering and equipment fabrication to installation and system integration. Projects can be implemented on a turnkey basis or by individual work packages, including PT/ED systems, paint tanks, conveyors, paint booths, ovens, utilities, and wastewater treatment systems.
Main systems of a ED dip painting line
A complete paint shop line typically consists of multiple interconnected systems that operate as an integrated production process. CNC-VINA can design, fabricate, supply, and install individual systems or complete packages according to the process requirements and scope of each project.

Pretreatment and electrocoating (PT/ED) system
The PT/ED system is used for surface pretreatment and electrocoating before subsequent painting processes. Depending on the process requirements, the system may include surface pretreatment tanks, water rinse tanks, DI water rinse tanks, phosphating tanks, and an electrocoating (ED) tank. These tanks are integrated with circulation pumps, piping, filtration equipment, an ultrafiltration (UF) system, electrodes, and heating, cooling, and temperature control systems as required.
For dip coating lines, the conveyor or lifting and handling mechanism must also be designed and synchronized with the tank system to transfer products through each process in the correct sequence, at the specified speed and treatment time. CNC-VINA can design, fabricate, and install PT/ED dipping tanks, piping systems, circulation pumps, filtration equipment, and related components according to the process requirements of each paint shop line.
Plastic painting and topcoat system
For plastic components, motorcycle and automotive parts, and other industrial products requiring surface coating, the paint shop line can be configured with primer, base coat, top coat, or clear coat processes depending on product requirements. The system configuration may include paint booths, paint preparation and mixing areas, air supply and treatment systems, dust and paint collection equipment, product conveyors, and post-paint drying systems. The layout of these areas should be coordinated with product dimensions, line speed, airflow requirements, and coating quality requirements to ensure stable operation throughout the painting process.
Paint booth and oven systems
Paint booth
The paint booth is the area where spray painting is carried out, requiring controlled airflow, temperature, cleanliness, and pressure conditions according to the applicable process requirements. The configuration of the paint booth depends on the type of paint, spraying method, product dimensions, and production capacity of the line. CNC-VINA can design, fabricate, and install paint booths for primer and topcoat processes, integrated with AHU systems, fans, air filtration, air supply, and other related equipment. The system layout is coordinated with the conveyor and available plant space to ensure continuous product transfer between processes.
Oven and combustion chamber
After painting, products are transferred to the oven for drying or curing the coating according to the required process conditions. The oven system may incorporate a combustion chamber with gas or oil burners, hot-air circulation fans, supply and return air systems, temperature control, and thermal insulation. Oven design should take into account the operating temperature, product residence time, product dimensions, conveyor speed, and heating method to maintain stable drying conditions suitable for each product and coating system.

UF and DI systems in a ED dip painting line
UF filtration system
The UF (Ultrafiltration) system is an important auxiliary system in an electrocoating line. Depending on the process configuration, the UF system can separate and recover part of the paint solution while supporting product rinsing after the ED coating process. CNC-VINA can implement UF systems integrated with pumps, piping, filtration equipment, and related components according to the capacity and process requirements of each paint shop line.
DI water system
DI (Deionized) water is used in processes requiring high-purity water, particularly for rinsing after pretreatment or electrocoating. The DI water system can be designed according to actual water consumption requirements and may include water treatment equipment, storage tanks, piping, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
Conveyor and lifting systems
The material handling system connects the different processes within the paint shop line while determining product transfer speed and residence time in each area. Depending on the plant layout and product characteristics, the line may incorporate conveyors, chain conveyors, transfer conveyors, traverser conveyors, hoists, or other lifting and transfer mechanisms. For dip coating lines, the handling system must ensure that products are transferred into and out of the tanks in the correct sequence, at the specified speed and position. For spray painting lines, conveyor speed must be coordinated with spraying time, drying time, and the processing requirements of each stage.
Air supply and treatment systems
Air conditions inside paint booths, drying areas, and workzones have a direct impact on the painting process and the surface quality of finished products. Therefore, the air supply and treatment system must be designed according to the specific requirements of each area.
CNC-VINA can implement ASU (Air Supply Unit) systems for fresh-air supply and AHU (Air Handling Unit) systems for air treatment and conditioning in paint booths, drying areas, and workzones. The system can be integrated with supply fans, return fans, exhaust fans, air filtration equipment, and air distribution systems. Parameters such as airflow rate, temperature, pressure, and air recirculation configuration are determined based on the paint booth and oven design, working area dimensions, and process requirements of the paint shop line.
Chiller and boiler systems
Chiller system
Chiller system can be used to provide chilled water for equipment requiring cooling within the paint shop line, such as PT/ED tanks, AHU systems, and other auxiliary equipment. Chiller capacity is determined based on the thermal load, supply and return water temperatures, and the overall cooling demand of the system.
Boiler system
A boiler system is used to provide hot water or a heat source for processes requiring heating. Depending on the system design, the boiler can be connected to process tanks, heat exchangers, or other heat-consuming equipment.
Tanks, process vessels and storage systems
Tanks and process vessels are important components of a paint shop line, particularly in pretreatment, phosphating, and electrocoating processes. Depending on the process medium, tank capacity, and operating conditions, tanks can be fabricated from carbon steel, stainless steel, or incorporate suitable surface protection systems. CNC-VINA can design, fabricate, and install PT dipping tanks, ED tanks, rinse tanks, chemical tanks, DI water tanks, as well as oil, chemical, and other auxiliary storage tanks. Material selection and surface protection methods are determined based on the process medium, chemical concentration, operating temperature, corrosion resistance requirements, and actual operating conditions.
Tunnels, platforms and mechanical structures
In addition to process equipment, a paint shop line requires structural systems to support, position, and connect the various equipment and process areas. CNC-VINA can implement steel structures, technical tunnels, operating platforms, maintenance platforms, equipment support structures, tank areas, oven structures, paint booth structures, as well as guardrails, stairs, and other auxiliary structures. Structural design is based on equipment loads, line dimensions, installation elevations, operational requirements, and actual plant conditions. For large equipment such as PT/ED tanks, ovens, and conveyor systems, the structural design should be coordinated from the early engineering stage to minimize modifications and construction issues during installation.
Paint mixing and painting equipment
For paint shop lines requiring automatic paint mixing and supply, CNC-VINA can integrate paint mixing systems according to the required number of colors and process configuration. The system can be configured for single-color, two-color, multi-color, or other paint supply requirements depending on the products and production process. Spray painting equipment and paint supply systems are selected and integrated according to the paint type, product characteristics, line speed, and required surface quality. The paint supply system layout should also be coordinated with the paint booth, ventilation system, and paint preparation area to facilitate stable and efficient operation.
