The automatic drilling – chamfering – boring machine designed and manufactured by CNC VINA is a specialized solution that helps businesses optimize productivity in mass production. Instead of performing each machining operation on separate machines, the system can automatically perform three consecutive processes - drilling, chamfering, and reaming - with only one workpiece setup. Structure of specialized, integrated processing machines

The automatic drilling – chamfering – boring machine, designed and manufactured by CNC VINA, is a specialized machining system configured according to the geometric characteristics, technical requirements, and production volume of each product. The machine integrates three machining operations - drilling, chamfering, and reaming - into a single system, reducing the number of workpiece setups and significantly shortening machining time. Basically, the machine consists of 4 main units:

1. Specialized machining units and equipment

These units directly perform the required machining operations on the workpiece, including:

  • Drilling unit: Creates holes according to the required dimensions and positions on the workpiece.
  • Chamfering unit: Processes the edge of the drilled hole to create the specified chamfer angle, helping remove burrs and facilitating subsequent assembly operations.
  • Reaming unit: Performs precision finishing of the hole after drilling to ensure the required hole diameter, dimensional accuracy, and surface quality.

The machining units can be arranged and equipped according to the specific requirements of each product, enabling the machine to effectively meet mass production requirements.

2. Indexing rotary table and workpiece fixture unit

The indexing rotary table moves the workpiece sequentially to the corresponding machining positions. After each cycle, the rotary table performs precise indexing to position the workpiece at the drilling, chamfering, and reaming stations. A dedicated JIG fixture is integrated into the rotary table to accurately locate and securely clamp the workpiece throughout the machining process. The fixture is designed according to the shape and technical requirements of each component, ensuring accurate positioning while minimizing vibration and machining deviations.

The combination of the indexing rotary table and dedicated JIG fixtures allows the machine to perform multiple consecutive machining operations without removing and re-clamping the workpiece between processes.

3. Machine base, machine structure and coolant system

The machine base and main structure form the load-bearing framework of the equipment, providing rigidity and stability throughout the machining process. The machine structure is designed according to the machining loads and characteristics of the workpiece, helping minimize vibration and maintain machining accuracy. The machine is also equipped with an integrated coolant system to supply cutting fluid during drilling, chamfering, and reaming operations. The system helps cool and lubricate the cutting tools, reduce heat generated during machining, and extend tool service life.

4. PLC control system

The PLC control system is responsible for controlling and managing the entire operating cycle of the machine. The PLC coordinates various mechanisms, including the rotary table, machining units, workholding fixtures, sensors, and other related equipment. After the operator loads the workpiece into position and starts the machine, the PLC automatically controls the machining sequence: workpiece clamping → drilling → chamfering → reaming → inspection/completion → transferring the finished workpiece to the next position, according to the pre-programmed sequence. Thanks to the automatic control system, all machining operations are performed synchronously, accurately, and consistently, while reducing dependence on operator intervention.

Overall, these four main units are designed and integrated into a complete automated machining system, with each component performing its specific function while operating in synchronization within the same production cycle. Outstanding features and operating principles

With drilling, boring, chamfering heads, and graduated turntable integrated on the machine, controlled by PLC. Integrated processing machines help the product processing process be uninterrupted. For each product type, the installation of jigs, jigs and dandries will be prepared in advance. The process from feeding blanks to getting finished products is briefly described as follows:

  • The worker stands at a specified position, installs the first product on the jig and presses the button. The automatic workpiece clamping pneumatic system will work to position and clamp the raw product.
  • The index table system will automatically rotate the product to the head position of the drilling cluster. The drill head assembly automatically drills down to create holes. (At the same time, the worker proceeds to install the second product at his position. Press the START button with both hands to "notify" the workpiece machine that it is ready).
  • The turntable brings the product to the head of the chamfer assembly. Product No. 1 has beveled edges according to the drawing. (At the same time, the third product is in ready position. The second product is being drilled)
  • The product is moved and rotated on the graduated turntable to the final working position. The boring operation reaches the size and tolerance of the hole. (While the second product is being beveled. The third product is being drilled automatically. The fourth product is in position ready for the drilling operation).
  • The finished part is rotated to the worker's position. Details are released from the clamp and quickly removed. New product installed and clamped. Ending a cycle time takes about 10-15 seconds.

Instructions for operating and maintaining specialized processing machines.

Complying with correct operating and maintenance procedures is extremely important. With any mechanical processing machine, especially specialized machines serving mass product processing. Cycle time is short, the machine operates almost continuously 3 shifts/day. If the operation and maintenance procedures are not followed correctly, it will cause unsafety and problems to the machine. Affects productivity and delivery time.

Be careful when operating automatic drilling, chamfering, and boring machines

  • Always check the power source and compressed air before starting the machine. Ensuring enough to serve processing capacity.
  • Check the engine, pump, power cord, shaft, bearings... Maintain the mechanical system, periodically pump grease and clean the machine before each shift.
  • Change coolant oil regularly, clean chips, filter residue and clean oil tank periodically.
  • Use cutting tools and chamfering drill bits of the correct type and size. Replace according to calculated parameters.

Instructions for assembling and replacing JIG and dandory jigs

Steps to change Jig and jaws

  • The cylinder is in the clamped open state
  • Remove the bolt that fixes the clamp jaw, bring the clamp jaw just removed to the correct position
  • Remove the bolt that secures the Jig and put the old Jig in the correct position
  • Insert the new model Jig into the correct positioning pin, then tighten the bolt to secure the Jig.
  • Replace the clamping jaw with a new model corresponding to the new Jig replaced in the step above.

After replacing the clamp and Jig, push the hand valve to the clamping state, then control on the HMI to move the rotary table to the next replacement position. After replacing 4 positions, the entire replacement process will be inspected.

Change the chamfer distance

Because the hole chamfer position distance may vary between product types. So the position of the chamfering knife must also be different. Silver usage varies according to each product.

Step 1: Switch the device to Manual mode.

To safely replace the model, please visually inspect the drilling assembly, chamfering assembly, and boring assembly: Main shaft is in the highest position, avoiding collision with the rotary table and other mechanisms. Remove all all machining tools before replacing the model.
